Is therapy right for me?
The reasons that people pursue therapy are as varied as people themselves. Some seek therapy to deal with long-standing issues such as depression, anxiety, or feeling confused or overwhelmed. Others come in response to unexpected changes such as a divorce or a work transition. Still others use therapy as a way to advance their own personal exploration and growth. Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of life by taking responsibility, creating greater self-awareness, and working toward change.
Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my problems.
Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have navigated through other difficulties you've faced in the past, for any number of reasons the time may just seem right for some extra support now. For instance, current problems may seem more serious, or perhaps you've just grown tired of "toughing it out" only to find that the same issues keep cropping up again and again. Whatever the reason, the decision to seek therapy is a sign of strength and self-awareness that you would like a helping hand. Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, giving you useful tools for increasing your insight and self-knowledge, changing unhelpful patterns, and weathering challenges you may face.
How can therapy help me?
Therapy can provide insight, support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, work problems, unresolved childhood issues, grief, trauma, and stress management. Many people also find that therapy can be a tremendous asset in managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, and the hassles of daily life. Some of the benefits available from therapy include:

What is therapy like?
During therapy sessions, we'll discuss whatever is on your mind -- such as feelings, problems, recent experiences and interactions, memories, dreams, and reactions to therapy itself. Our sessions will be conversations with the focus on you, but with lots of give and take. Through these conversations, we'll clarify feelings, uncover and challenge painful assumptions, identify unhelpful patterns, and broaden your awareness of new perspectives and possibilities. Sessions are held once a week or more often, and each session lasts fifty minutes. Here are some things you can expect out of therapy:

Do you accept insurance?
I am an in-network therapist with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Cigna. If you have another insurance carrier you may be able to submit claims for out-of-network reimbursement. I will be happy to discuss insurance issues with you before or during our consultation.
Is therapy confidential?
In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and psychotherapist. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client.
However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule. Exceptions include:
- When child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse is suspected, the therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person, the therapist is required to notify the police.
- If a client intends to harm himself or herself, the therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety. However, if a person does not cooperate, additional measures may need to be taken.
